Happy Earth Day once again. This year’s theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, means so much more than simply powering our modern lifestyles with renewable energy. To me the power we need is ‘People Power’, the realisation that Homo sapiens hold the future in our hands. The nasty little secret is that Mother Earth will get along just fine without us, so in the truest sense, we should be united in the quest to ‘Save the People’. Chapter 23 of my novel FEVER describes an Earth Day lecture I never had the good fortune to deliver to my students. If you can afford a few minutes, read the Earth Day talk taken from my novel, FEVER. That short chapter emphasises the fact that Mother Earth – Gaia – has been around for BILLIONS of years longer than humans and will be here long after we are gone. We must try harder to “Save the People”!
